Up the garden path.

Well the day finally dawned yesterday when I could go and see the Quirky house. Would I like it? Would I love it? I forced the girls to come with me despite their protestations and wanting to remain in their night clothes in front of the TV all day...."Come on", I said "This might be the one". "I'll only want it if it's got a pink bedroom for me" said Alice.

Well, we turned up, the lady owner showed us round and we discussed the area. She's managed to bring two children up in the area, one of which is now at University....so much for the badlands of Ipswich! The house, itself was wonderful, I loved it, the girls LOVED it.....and later on when I took Andy (and Lettuce, who is visiting), HE LOVED IT! Not only that, he WANTS it and wants to make an offer.....

It really ticks all our boxes..... Grand hall, with flagstone hall, enormous cellar with two rooms in it...one for either a gym/cinema/table tennis playing area, two enormous, high ceilinged, full of character reception rooms with French windows off one of the rooms to a lovely private walled courtyard side garden full of wisteria and old roses, a 'country' style kitchen with French windows off to the garden and another set of French windows onto the beautiful hardwood conservatory which leads to the 'chapel' which has been wonderfully converted to utility room, power shower room and extra room which they use as a study. (Sigh). Upstairs, four capacious bedrooms....the master bedroom has a walk in wardrobe and ensuite. All the floors are original wide boards! And the garden is superb!

Got a cynical text from Nicola saying "and what about all the syringes in the front garden!" Well, quite frankly she's talking from a comfortable, middle class enclave that she's got used to where she is.....surrounded by 'nice' people like her. Both Lettuce, Andy and I agree that the area isn't bad......it's not 'pleasant valley', it does have a bit of 'edge' but that's what we like.

More to the point, it feels like an artist's home.....that's me! me! me I tell you.....if I get the house do you think the rest will follow?

(Oh yes, there was a pink bedroom.....two in fact!)

Its fabulous! I so hope you buy this house. I want to come and stay in it, and it would be much more fun if you were there as I don't know the other people very well.

I remember when we saw Wrottesly...We thought it was fantastic but were so worried about the estate opposite..It was big, needed renovating and better still you could park outside...Wehad sleepless nights before we decided to buy it. We didn't have any trouble there Luce, nothing serious or worrying. I say go for it, I do I tell ya...

God, if I had the chance to get a house like that..I'd go for it. GO FOR IT GAL! It sounds fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. And it sounds like it is in an enclave. It sounds gorgeous. Sulk. I'm jealous. Chapel? How cool is that? I've got a feeling about this one. I'm having electric shocks and the lights just flickered.

No, really. I've got a feeling. Never ignore the psychic Betty, sorry, Molly moments.

I came over here earlier meaning to say something specific and then got distracted by Quirky House and left without saying it.

What I meant to say, was thankyou for supporting me in No Alcohol Month. Tomorrow is the 1st June and I will dedicate every drink that I consume to you (and there will be a lot of drinks!!)Codeine will be banished for the day and alcohol will take its place!

Well, here's an update...we made an offer...a reasonable offer we thought. Lettuce, me and kids went to the Suffolk Show and we were out of texting range for some reason (two many tractors and woolly sheep). As soon as we left at 5pm the phone went and it was the agent saying that our offer wasn't accepted and there was a higher offer already made by someone who is in the same position as we are. Would we like to increase our offer?

Should I believe the lying, thieving, deceitful agent and increase our offer to get the house? OR NOT? After all those lovely comments saying it's the house for us... I feel you are all right....I should increase the offer....

Just phoned the agent..they've gone home for night...ptb...more tomorrow...fingers crossed.

PTB indeed, how frustrating. At least you have got Lettuce there to keep you calm.

Oh yes, increase your offer. If you want it you've got to go for it. Up to a point, I suppose. We don't want to see you on the news arrested for selling your daughters to the white slave trade or something.

I'm sure I paid far too much for this place but I've never regretted it (and Mirren got used to working the Red Light District of Manchester eventually!!).

Good luck!

yes, you should go for it...to whatever level you and Andy feel comfortable...and I hope it doesn't include the white slave trade! It sounds like an absolutely amazing house!

You love this house already - ask for a second look in order to make a revised offer - get personal with the vendor - maybe she'll give you a clue as to how much will do the trick!
Can't wait to get to Ipswich. Keep us all posted.

Hi Bangla, well I've seen this house twice, once with the girls and once with Andy (and Lettuce). We spent ages getting to know the vendors, they offered us drinks, we got on....you'd think they'd let us buy their house for God's sakes! Going to up the offer today, let's see.

Good luck, Rambler! Sounds like a great house and if you can afford to increase the offer then go for it...
There's nothing living happy in a house you love...

PTB

Just heard on the answer phone when I got home that the vendor had accepted a higher offer today - we'd made a good offer...only a bit lower than the asking price but apparently there was a lot of interest in this house.

Nevermind....I'm on the gin with Lettuce now....

I have a sneaky feeling that these impetuous people who make high offers to secure the house then have second thoughts. Ever the optimist!

PTB! Let's hope it does fall through. You have no chain so a good estate agent should advise vendors to go with you cos you're a safe bet. I suppose there aren't any though, are there? Good ones, that is.

Have a lovely evening with Lettuce.

I'm become the bunny boiler of the estate agents' lives. I went into the estate agent today to beg them to let me have that house (not really). But I did go in to ask who'd got it and would there be ANY chance at all of it falling through. Sadly, the answer was no. Cash buyers who know the area well. PTB. Never mind. Draw a line underneath that one. Next post coming up on something other than houses.

Time for a new post, I think, RW.

Sorry about the lubrication and opening up thing. It was a bit bad taste (so to speak). But yes, what else can you expect from the daughter of a gynaecologist eh.

Did you see Jeremy on Have I got News? He wasn't very good really but it was still funny. That woman had very large breasts - very off-putting.

Oh poor you! I guess you are missing Lettuce.

Ruth has gone out with her first love. I presume he is no longer her love but as long as she comes home at some point I guess it doesn't matter!!

Yes, you are right about the necklace. She said she was pregnant didn't she? My breasts never grew that big when I was pregnant!

Re that conversation we were having last night about the numbers of packets of quavers that can be eaten in one session. Ruth and I managed 5 packets each in an hour last night. Impressed or what! I think I might try hula hoops next time though!!!

How about you? Did you find some lurking in the cupboard or was the cupboard bare? If so, make sure you get in a multipack to share with Andy tonight!!!

Haha re your comment on my blog.

Would I lie to you!?

I think quavers will be the last thing he fancies after all that cycling!

Got to go ski-ing now.
